Some Stuff About Me

Alex sent me some questions. Here are some answers. But I wonder what they’re supposed to reveal about the respondent? Oh well, here goes:

Three screen names that you’ve had: Talisker — that’s all apart from the current one

Three things you like about yourself:
curiosity, sense of humour, doggedness

Three things you don’t like about yourself: being the same height as Queen Victoria (or anybody else who’s 4′ 11″ high) — it’s extemely inconvenient; not having a photographic memory; impatience

Three parts of your heritage: English, Irish, and a tiny bit of Welsh

Three things that scare you: Public speaking; parties where you have to stand about holding a glass of vile wine and a mouth-unfriendly canape, while making small talk with boring people; the galleon at Chessington World of (Hideous) Adventures — a near-death experience if ever there was one

Three of your everyday essentials: a mug of ultra-strong cafetiere coffee with cream; the next ten pages of whatever book I’m on; a nice cup of tea

Three things you are wearing right now: Levi’s, amber drop earrings, a cardi with a furry collar

Three of your favorite songs: Fields of Gold (Sting); For A Dancer (Jackson Browne); Alan Watts Blues (Van Morrison)

Three things you want in a relationship: a copper-bottomed sense of humour; a good listening ear; generosity (not necessarily with money)

Two truths and a lie: I have a granddaughter; I have a criminal record; I introduced Dr David Starkey to Queen Elizabeth I

Three things you can’t live without: books; Green & Black’s chocolate with almonds (or cherries, or ginger); my PC

Three places you want to go on vacation: Rome; North Africa; The Rockies

Three things you just can’t do: swim properly; smoke a cigarette; eat margarine

Three kids’ names: Myrtle, Harold, Aethelfroth

Three things you want to do before you die: go on a horse-trek; read Tristram Shandy right to the end; be good enough at Latin to read Catullus and Horace in the original without looking something up in the dictionary or grammar book every two minutes

Three celeb crushes: Frank the Tortoise from Creature Comforts, Bill Nighy, Alan Rickman

Three of your favourite musicians: Van Morrison; Mark Knopfler; Van Morrison (he’s very versatile)

Three physical things about the opposite sex that appeals to you: Erm, well…

Three of your favourite hobbies: doing cryptic crosswords; walking in the countryside; trying out new recipes, especially if they contain chocolate

Three things you really want to do badly right now: Down a wee dram of Laphroaig, and another, and another.

Three careers you’re considering/you’ve considered: Law; teaching; running a secondhand bookshop-cum-cafe

Three ways that you are stereotypically a boy: I like stuff about battles; I can’t multi-task (well, I can, but usually ends in disaster); I can’t see the point of dusting

Three ways that you are stereotypically a girl: I’m illogical; I like furry animals (except rats); I do alarming mood swings

Three people that I would like to see post this meme:
